I know I’ve only watched the series the whole way through once. But the transformation of Spike from villain to ally has always struck me as tough to understand.
Then I remembered that he was a hostage of the Scoobies for a good amount of time. That seems to be the time when he stopped wanting to eat all of them, and when his feelings for Buffy start showing more.
